Booking & payment policies

The Centre

The Lifewise Centre is a unique facility consisting of three fully equipped classrooms and a purpose built set. The classrooms are themed after the three Emergency Services and can accommodate a variety of meetings and training events. The set presents a fantastic opportunity for learning interactively through realistic scenarios delivered in a lifelike street scene.

 

Police Classroom

The Police Classroom seats up to 85 people on comfortable chairs set out in theatre style, however the layout of the room can be changed to suit the event. The room is equipped with a smartboard, flipchart and HDMI connector for laptiops.

 

Fire Classroom

The Fire Classroom seats up to 65 people on comfortable chairs set out in theatre style, however the layout of the room can be changed to suit the event. The room is equipped with a smartboard, flipchart and HDMI connector for laptops.

 

NHS Classroom

The NHS Classroom seats up to 16 people on comfortable chairs set out in boardroom style. The room is equipped with a smartboard, flipchart and HDMI connector for laptops. 

 

Conference Facilities

The Police and Fire Classrooms can be opened up into one large room to accommodate larger events. The room can be arranged in either theatre or cabaret style and seat up to 150 people altogether.

 

The Set

The Set consists of :-

  • Police Station with custody area and cell

  • Accident and Emergency

  • Crime Scene Room

  • Court Room

  • House with sitting room, kitchen diner, bedroom and garden

  • House with living room and garden

  • Shop

  • Community Hub

  • Street with Puffin Crossing and car

  • Single Decker Bus

  • Park with youth shelter and swings

 

Staffing

Each day, Lifewise Centre staff and a Duty Manager are available to assist with the general arrangements of an event. Additional staff can be provided to facilitate scenarios in the set, this may incur an additional cost.

 

Opening Hours

The Lifewise Centre is open daily, except for Bank Holidays

  • Monday to Thursday 08:30 – 16:00

  • Friday 08:30 – 15:30  

The Centre may also open outside of these hours for pre-booked events

  • Monday to Thursday 17:00 – 20:00 - this may incur further charges for staff overtime

  • Saturday 09:00 – 16:00 - this may incur further charges for staff overtime

  • Sundays 09:00 – 16:00 - this may incur further charges for staff overtime

 

Booking the Centre

Availability can be checked by emailing lifewise.booking@southyorks.pnn.police.uk or by phoning 01709 832455. Once availability is confirmed a provisional booking can be made and a Booking Form will be emailed to the applicant.

The booking form must be fully completed and returned within 7 days of making the provisional booking via email to lifewise.booking@southyorks.pnn.police.uk. The booking is not guaranteed until an email confirmation is received from the Lifewise Centre.

If applicable, a Charging Form will be emailed to the applicant and must be returned within 7 days from the date of the email. If the Lifewise Centre does not receive the completed form with correct charging details within the 7 days, the booking cannot be guaranteed. Cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the dates booked may, at the discretion of the management be charged at the full cost to the person or organisation making the booking. Additional costs incurred for external partners or organisations involved in the event will be charged at full cost to the person or organisation making the booking.

Charging Criteria

In order to continue to develop the Lifewise Centre and provide an excellent facility for learning to the communities of South Yorkshire it is necessary to apply an appropriate charge to generate funds to sustain the operational running costs.

Each area is charged by the full day, half day or per hour to ensure that the Centre is fully utilised throughout the year. The costs relating to the classrooms and conference room are inclusive of use of the flipchart and interactive screens, but organisers need to provide laptops.  Additional charges may apply for staffing.

All costs exclude VAT and do not include refreshments, which can be purchased separately.  Details on the booking form.

Schools from outside South Yorkshire

Large groups are charged at the costs detailed above for full use of the set and classrooms. For small groups that attend Crucial Crew with South Yorkshire Schools the cost is £5.00 per pupil.

Other Groups such as Scouts, Guides and other Cadet Organisations

Groups are charged £5.00 per pupil to utilise part of the set and one classroom. Sole use of the set may incur the full costs detailed previously.

Catering

Refreshments can be ordered for an additional cost.

  • SYP visitors – order through local BSU

  • Partners and other organisations – please provide a purchase order number, the form will be processed, and you will be invoiced accordingly

Please Note: If you need to change your refreshment booking, please do so at least 48 hours before the meeting or event. If you need to change your buffet booking, please do so at least ten days before the date of your meeting or event.

Briefing and Debriefing

The Centre staff will carry out a Health and Safety briefing before an event commences. This will include:

  • The Fire Evacuation procedures

  • First Aid

  • Toilet facilities

Ratio of Staff to Participants

Groups attending with children and young people should provide a minimum of 1 adult to every 10 children and young people participating in scenarios. The number of adults is to be increased appropriately in the case of children and young people with educational, behavioural or medical needs.

Whilst the Lifewise Centre staff will be available to ensure the safe and smooth running of events, they can neither be core to your activity or be responsible for arranging staffing for events in the Centre.

Parking

Parking is available at the front and side of the Lifewise Centre. There is additional parking in the rear yard if the car park is full or for larger vehicles.  Please car share wherever possible or use public transport.  There are also a number of cycle routes to/from the Lifewise Centre.

Toilet Facilities

These are located near to the classroom and set, and include an accessible toilet.

Risk Assessments

The Lifewise Centre's risk assessment is available on request by emailing lifewise.booking@southyorks.pnn.police.uk. It is the event organiser’s responsibility to ensure that the risk assessment is adequate for the activity.  It may be necessary for event organisers to create a separate risk assessment if the generic one does not cover all the risks for the event.

Code of Conduct

It is expected that all visitors behave in a manner, which ensures that the Centre operates safely and without liability for the provider.

  • Organisers must provide adequate staffing for their event

  • Children and young people must be appropriately supervised at all times whilst visiting the Centre

  • Litter should be placed in the bins provided

  • Chairs should be used for sitting on only

  • Food and drink is not permitted on the set

  • Care should be taken to avoid spillages and food dropped on the floor should be picked up and put in the bins provided

  • As a courtesy measure, please turn mobile phones to silent

  • The set, classrooms and all furniture and props should be left as they were found

  • Breakages or defects should be reported to the Lifewise Manager either in person or via lifewise.booking@southyorks.pnn.police.uk
